Three consumer apps live on the App Store — owning the backends that power them.

Wai Phyo Maung — everyone says Shiro. Development team lead at Magick Studio: running a ten-person team, architecting the backends, and shipping React Native apps people actually use. Five years in mobile, carrying products end to end — architecture, API, team, and the app-store release.

Magick Learn

Learn a language by living the story — interactive AI-generated adventures, a structured A1–C2 course, and one spaced-repetition review. Teaches German, English & Japanese — with explanations and translations in the learner’s native language: English, Thai or Burmese.

Built entirely alone

Mobile app · edge backend · AI content pipeline · admin console · landing site · the App Store release itself

Solo build — live & monetizing on iOS Role everything Stack Expo SDK 54 · React 19 · Hono on Cloudflare Workers · Turso · Drizzle
  • Mobile: React Native 0.81 / Expo SDK 54, Expo Router, Zustand + TanStack Query, NativeWind with a Material 3 token layer, Reanimated, TTS with a silent-mode-aware audio session, push notifications, RevenueCat subscriptions.
  • Edge backend: Hono on Cloudflare Workers, Turso (edge SQLite) with Drizzle ORM across 43 tables, Upstash Redis rate limiting, Clerk auth, ~90 OpenAPI-documented operations — Zod-validated at every boundary from one shared TypeScript contract.
  • AI pipeline: Anthropic Claude for narrative and moderation, LiteLLM for structured generation, AI/ML API for imagery — all server-side, feeding stories, lessons and three spaced-repetition tracks.
  • Release engineering: EAS builds submitted through the App Store Connect API — versions, screenshots and review submission fully scripted. Android build ready for Google Play.

Magick Box

All AI models, one platform — a consumer AI app for iOS & Android, live on the App Store.

Consumer AI, shipped

Multi-model chat · AI personas in group chats · image, video & music generation · community feed

Team of 10 — my lead Role Development Team Lead · backend architect Stack React Native · FastAPI · MongoDB · Celery/Redis · Kubernetes
  • Led the ten-person team from first commit to a live App Store release — architecture decisions, code review, release management.
  • Architected and built the backend: async FastAPI + MongoDB, AI/ML API as the primary model gateway with Replicate as fallback, and Celery/Redis queues that keep long-running video and music generation smooth.
  • Built the monetization stack — Stripe billing with custom product setup on the web, RevenueCat in-app purchases on iOS and Android.
  • Deployed on Kubernetes with Helm; CI/CD via GitHub Actions.

Earlier ships

Quibit — social app

South Korea · remote · 2024 · live on the App Store

Built individual and group chat for Quibit's React Native (Expo) app — serving Myanmar communities in Korea and abroad — integrating GraphQL APIs (Apollo Client) for people listings, friend connections and messaging, with contributions to the NestJS backend.

Quibit on the App Store — social networking app for Myanmar communities

Smart HR — KBZ Bank

Yangon, Myanmar · 2021–2023 · largest private bank in Myanmar

Full-stack engineer on the HR platform in production for 80,000+ employees across the KBZ Group — scalable ASP.NET microservice APIs for attendance, leave and payroll, AWS integration (Cognito, S3) and a queued SMS pipeline (SQS + SNS), with a React front end.

E-commerce app — Nexus Hub

Custom software house, Myanmar · remote, part-time · 2021 · facebook ↗

Developed an e-commerce app for Android and iOS with React Native and built its Python/Flask backend — catalogue, cart and checkout shipped to both platforms from one codebase. Where the React Native years started.

App-store expertise

Carried multiple apps through App Store and Play Store review — including the rejections. Guideline compliance, policy alignment, metadata and review notes, resubmission strategy: the unglamorous work that gets apps actually released, done repeatedly, plus fully scripted submissions via the App Store Connect API.
